Description
A vacancy exists for a Care Assistant (ICU), reporting to the Unit Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring efficient unit operations, maintaining ICU cleanliness in an orderly manner.
Critical Outputs
Mobility Support:
• Support use of mobility aids such as wheelchairs and walkers with the supervision of the Registered Nurse/Enrolled Nurse
• Help transfer patients safely (e.g., bed to chair) following proper handling techniques with the Registered Nurse/Enrolled Nurse
Stock Management:
• Ensure adequate availability of patient stickers
• Take Medication Scripts to and from Pharmacy
• Ordering of Staff Food from the kitchen
Cleaning and Infection Control:
• Clean and disinfect ICU beds, equipment, and surrounding areas
• Maintain a safe, hygienic environment in line with infection prevention protocols
• Ensure that linen is always available
• Do any other duties as delegated by the unit manager
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures
Requirements
• Minimum: Grade 12 / Matric (or equivalent)
• Relevant healthcare or caregiving qualification (advantageous)
• Previous experience in a hospital, ICU, or caregiving environment preferred
• Knowledge of basic patient care and hygiene practices
• Understanding of patient confidentiality and professional ethics.
