A vacancy exists for Chief Medical Officer, reporting to the Group Chief Operating Officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for the clinical leadership and oversight of all medical services within the hospital. The role ensures the delivery of safe, effective, patient-centered care in line with regulatory standards, clinical governance principles, and the hospital’s strategic objectives. The CMO plays a key role in clinical risk management, medical ethics, practitioner engagement, and the integration of quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
Critical Outputs
Clinical Governance & Risk
• Oversee and implement clinical governance frameworks.
• Monitor quality indicators and patient safety initiatives.
• Investigate and address clinical incidents, complaints, and adverse events
Medical Leadership
• Provide leadership to all medical staff and foster a culture of clinical excellence.
• Facilitate performance management, peer review, and CPD activities.
• Support recruitment, credentialing, and privileging of medical professionals
Regulatory & Ethical Compliance
• Ensure compliance with HPCSA, DOH, BHF, and all relevant legislation and licensing bodies.
• Uphold medical ethics and standards of conduct in clinical practice.
Strategy & Innovation
• Contribute to strategic hospital planning, including service expansion, new technology adoption, and clinical service design.
• Analyse healthcare trends and recommend enhancements aligned with patient needs.
Stakeholder Management
• Build and maintain strong relationships with healthcare providers, funders, regulatory bodies, and internal teams.
• Act as the clinical spokesperson for the hospital when required.
Operational & Financial Oversight
• Collaborate with the hospital manager and finance team to ensure cost-effective clinical operations.
• Align medical practice with hospital efficiency and sustainability targets.
Requirements
• MBChB or equivalent medical degree (mandatory).
• Master’s degree in Healthcare Management, Public Health, or Business Administration (advantageous).
• Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a medical practitioner (mandatory).
• Minimum 5- 10 years' clinical experience, with at least 5 years in medical leadership or healthcare executive role.
• Experience in private healthcare, including knowledge of funders, coding, and managed care.
• Demonstrated experience in clinical governance, risk management, and multidisciplinary team management.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel (if applicable).
